My PhD. Thesis is available for download. The thesis is entitled “Novel Morphologies on Flying Robots: Design for Field Application” and tackles the problem of new challenges on new shapes and configurations for future Unmanned Aerial Vehicles including hybridization of fixed-wing aircraft and multi-engine helicopters. I also propose new ways of UAVs deployment and a new overview on the use of drones for multi-environment applications as well.
The document brings a review of the state-of-the-art of current technology, as well as a complete mathematical theoretical background, complete computational analysis and project/design methodology, going through a thorough validation using both flight simulation and wind tunnel evaluation. Robust control and stability design (and implementation) are detailed. Finally, 3 novel configurations of drones are proposed and validated in real on-the-field conditions.
